ויתיבו תלת שנין לית קרבא בין ארם ובין ישראל:
yshral wbyn arm byn qrba lyth shnyn thlth wythybw
They continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.
2
והוה בשתא תליתאה ונחת יהושפט מלך שבטא דבית יהודה לות מלכא דישראל:
dyshral mlka lwth yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk yhwshpT wnkhth thlythah bshtha whwh
In the third year, Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

ואמר מלכא דישראל לעבדוהי הידעתון ארי דילנא רמות גלעד ואנחנא שתיקין מלמיסב יתה מיד מלכא דארם:
darm mlka myd ythh mlmysb shthyqyn wankhna gled rmwth dylna ary hydethwn lebdwhy dyshral mlka wamr
The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we do nothing, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”

ואמר ליהושפט התיזל עמי לאגחא קרבא לרמות גלעד ואמר יהושפט למלכא דישראל אנא כותך עמי כעמך וסוסותי כסוסותך:
kswswthk wswswthy kemk emy kwthk ana dyshral lmlka yhwshpT wamr gled lrmwth qrba lagkha emy hthyzl lyhwshpT wamr
He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

ואמר יהושפט למלכא דישראל תבע כען כיומא דין ית פתגמא דיי:
dyy pthgma yth dyn kywma ken thbe dyshral lmlka yhwshpT wamr
Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”
6
וכנש מלכא דישראל ית נביי שקרא כארבע מאה גברא ואמר להון האיזיל ברמות גלעד לאגחא קרבא אם אתמנע ואמרו סק וימסר יי ביד מלכא:
mlka byd yy wymsr sq wamrw athmne am qrba lagkha gled brmwth hayzyl lhwn wamr gbra mah karbe shqra nbyy yth dyshral mlka wknsh
Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Should I go against Ramoth Gilead to battle, or should I refrain?” They said, “Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

ואמר יהושפט הלית כא נביא קדם יי עוד ונתבע מניה:
mnyh wnthbe ewd yy qdm nbya ka hlyth yhwshpT wamr
But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of him?”
8
ואמר מלכא דישראל ליהושפט עוד גברא חד למתבע ית פתגמא דיי מיניה ואנא סניתיה ארי לא יתנבי עלי טב אלהין ביש מיכה בר ימלה ואמר יהושפט לא יימר מלכא כן:
kn mlka yymr la yhwshpT wamr ymlh br mykh bysh alhyn Tb ely ythnby la ary snythyh wana mynyh dyy pthgma yth lmthbe khd gbra ewd lyhwshpT dyshral mlka wamr
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

וקרא מלכא דישראל לגוזאה חד ואמר אוחי תבע מיכיהו בר ימלה:
ymlh br mykyhw thbe awkhy wamr khd lgwzah dyshral mlka wqra
Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Quickly get Micaiah the son of Imlah.”

ומלכא דישראל ויהושפט מלכא דיהודה יתבין גבר על כורסיה לבושין לבישין ויתבין באידרא במעלנא דתרע שמרון וכל נביי שקרא מתנבאין קדמיהון:
qdmyhwn mthnbayn shqra nbyy wkl shmrwn dthre bmelna baydra wythbyn lbyshyn lbwshyn kwrsyh el gbr ythbyn dyhwdh mlka wyhwshpT dyshral wmlka
Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

ועבד ליה צדקיה בר כנענה קרנין דברזל ואמר כדנן אמר יי באילין תקטל ית אנש ארם עד די תשיצינון:
thshytsynwn dy ed arm ansh yth thqTl baylyn yy amr kdnn wamr dbrzl qrnyn knenh br tsdqyh lyh webd
Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘With these you will push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”

וכל נביי שקרא מתנבן כן למימר סק לרמות גלעד ואצלח וימסר יי בידא דמלכא:
dmlka byda yy wymsr watslkh gled lrmwth sq lmymr kn mthnbn shqra nbyy wkl
All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

ואזגדא דאזל למקרי מיכיהו מליל עמיה למימר הא כען פתגמי נביי שקרא ממלל חד שוי קדם מלכא יהי כען פתגמך כפתגמא דחד מנהון ותמליל פתגמין תקנין:
thqnyn pthgmyn wthmlyl mnhwn dkhd kpthgma pthgmk ken yhy mlka qdm shwy khd mmll shqra nbyy pthgmy ken ha lmymr emyh mlyl mykyhw lmqry dazl wazgda
The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “See now, the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.”

ואמר מיכיהו קים הוא יי ארי ית דיימר יי לי יתיה אמלל:
amll ythyh ly yy dyymr yth ary yy hwa qym mykyhw wamr
Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what Yahweh says to me, that I will speak.”

ואתא לות מלכא ואמר מלכא ליה מיכיהו הניזיל רמות גלעד לאגחא קרבא אם נתמנע ואמר ליה סק ואצלח וימסר יי בידא דמלכא:
dmlka byda yy wymsr watslkh sq lyh wamr nthmne am qrba lagkha gled rmwth hnyzyl mykyhw lyh mlka wamr mlka lwth watha
When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall we forbear?” He answered him, “Go up and prosper; and Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

ואמר ליה מלכא עד כמא זמנין אנא מקים עלך דלא תמליל לי לחוד קשוט בשמא דיי:
dyy bshma qshwT lkhwd ly thmlyl dla elk mqym ana zmnyn kma ed mlka lyh wamr
The king said to him, “How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?”

ואמר חזיתי ית כל ישראל מבדרין על טוריא כענא דלית להון רעי ואמר יי לית רבונין לאלין יתובון גבר לביתיה בשלם:
bshlm lbythyh gbr ythwbwn lalyn rbwnyn lyth yy wamr rey lhwn dlyth kena Twrya el mbdryn yshral kl yth khzythy wamr
He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’”

ואמר מלכא דישראל ליהושפט הלא אמרית לך דלא יתנבי עלי טב אלהין ביש:
bysh alhyn Tb ely ythnby dla lk amryth hla lyhwshpT dyshral mlka wamr
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

ואמר בכן קביל פתגמא דיי חזיתי ית יקרא דיי שרי על כורסיה וכל חילי שמיא קימין קדמוהי מימיניה ומסמליה:
wmsmlyh mymynyh qdmwhy qymyn shmya khyly wkl kwrsyh el shry dyy yqra yth khzythy dyy pthgma qbyl bkn wamr
Micaiah said, “Therefore hear Yahweh’s word. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

ואמר יי מן יטעי ית אחאב ויסק ויפוק ברמות גלעד ואמר דין בכדין ודין אמר בכדין:
bkdyn amr wdyn bkdyn dyn wamr gled brmwth wypwq wysq akhab yth yTey mn yy wamr
Yahweh said, ‘Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One said one thing, and another said another.

ונפק רוחא וקם קדם יי ואמר אנא אטעיניה ואמר יי ליה במא:
bma lyh yy wamr aTeynyh ana wamr yy qdm wqm rwkha wnpq
A spirit came out and stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’
22
ואמר אפוק ואהוי לרוח שקר בפום כל נביוהי ואמר תטעי ואף תכול פוק ועביד כן:
kn webyd pwq thkwl wap thTey wamr nbywhy kl bpwm shqr lrwkh wahwy apwq wamr
Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’ He said, ‘I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said, ‘You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’

וכען הא יהב יי רוח שקר בפום כל נביך אלין ויי גזר לאיתאה עלך בישא:
bysha elk laythah gzr wyy alyn nbyk kl bpwm shqr rwkh yy yhb ha wken
Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”

וקריב צדקיהו בר כנענה ומחא ית מיכיהו על לסתיה ואמר אי דא שעה אסתלק רוח נבואה מן קדם יי מיני למללא עמך:
emk lmlla myny yy qdm mn nbwah rwkh asthlq sheh da ay wamr lsthyh el mykyhw yth wmkha knenh br tsdqyhw wqryb
Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did Yahweh’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”

ואמר מיכיהו הא את חזי ביומא ההוא דאת עליל תון בגו תון לאטמרא:
laTmra thwn bgw thwn elyl dath hhwa bywma khzy ath ha mykyhw wamr
Micaiah said, “Behold, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”

ואמר מלכא דישראל דבר ית מיכיהו ואתיבהי לות אמון רב קרתא ולות יואש בר מלכא:
mlka br ywash wlwth qrtha rb amwn lwth wathybhy mykyhw yth dbr dyshral mlka wamr
The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son.
27
ותימר כדנן אמר מלכא שוו ית דין בבית אסירי ואכילוהי לחמא בדחוק ומיא בדחוק עד מיתאי בשלם:
bshlm mythay ed bdkhwq wmya bdkhwq lkhma wakylwhy asyry bbyth dyn yth shww mlka amr kdnn wthymr
Say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”
28
ואמר מיכיהו אם מיתב תתוב בשלם לא רעוא קדם יי בי ואמר שמעו עממיא כולהון:
kwlhwn emmya shmew wamr by yy qdm rewa la bshlm ththwb mythb am mykyhw wamr
Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, all you people!”

וסליק מלכא דישראל ויהושפט מלך שבטא דבית יהודה רמות גלעד:
gled rmwth yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk wyhwshpT dyshral mlka wslyq
So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
30
ואמר מלכא דישראל ליהושפט אנא אשתני ואיעול בקרבא ואת לבש לבושך ואשתני מלכא דישראל ועל בקרבא:
bqrba wel dyshral mlka washthny lbwshk lbsh wath bqrba wayewl ashthny ana lyhwshpT dyshral mlka wamr
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.” The king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle.
31
ומלכא דארם פקיד ית רבני רתיכא דיליה תלתין ותרין מלכון למימר לא תגיחון קרבא עם זעירא ועם רבא אלהין עם מלכא דישראל בלחודוהי:
blkhwdwhy dyshral mlka em alhyn rba wem zeyra em qrba thgykhwn la lmymr mlkwn wthryn thlthyn dylyh rthyka rbny yth pqyd darm wmlka
Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”

והוה כד חזו רבני רתיכיא ית יהושפט ואינון אמרו ברם מלכא דישראל הוא וזרו עלוהי לאגחא קרבא ביה וצוח יהושפט:
yhwshpT wtswkh byh qrba lagkha elwhy wzrw hwa dyshral mlka brm amrw waynwn yhwshpT yth rthykya rbny khzw kd whwh
When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “Surely that is the king of Israel!” and they came over to fight against him. Jehoshaphat cried out.
33
והוה כד חזו רבני רתיכיא ארי לא מלכא דישראל הוא ותבו מאחורוהי:
makhwrwhy wthbw hwa dyshral mlka la ary rthykya rbny khzw kd whwh
When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.
34
וגברא נגד בקשתא לקבליה ומחא ית מלכא דישראל בין דבקי ובין שרינא ואמר למרכבניה אתחזר לאחורך ואפיקני מן משריתא ארי מרע אנא:
ana mre ary mshrytha mn wapyqny lakhwrk athkhzr lmrkbnyh wamr shryna wbyn dbqy byn dyshral mlka yth wmkha lqblyh bqshtha ngd wgbra
A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”

וסליקו עבדי קרבא ביומא ההוא ומלכא הוה מתקיף וקאים ברתיכא לקביל אנש ארם ומית ברמשא ואתריק דמא דמחתא לגו רתיכא:
rthyka lgw dmkhtha dma wathryq brmsha wmyth arm ansh lqbyl brthyka wqaym mthqyp hwh wmlka hhwa bywma qrba ebdy wslyqw
The battle increased that day. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.

ואעברו כרוז במשריתא כמיעל שמשא למימר גבר לקרתיה וגבר לארעיה:
lareyh wgbr lqrthyh gbr lmymr shmsha kmyel bmshrytha krwz waebrw
A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”
37
ומית מלכא ואתא לשמרון וקברו ית מלכא בשמרון:
bshmrwn mlka yth wqbrw lshmrwn watha mlka wmyth
So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38
ושטף ית רתיכיא על בריכתא דשמרון ולחכו כלביא ית דמיה ומני זינא שטפו כפתגמא דיי דמליל:
dmlyl dyy kpthgma shTpw zyna wmny dmyh yth klbya wlkhkw dshmrwn bryktha el rthykya yth wshTp
They washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood where the prostitutes washed themselves, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke.
39
ושאר פתגמי אחאב וכל דעבד ובית שנא דפיל די בנא וכל קרויא דבנא הלא אינון כתיבין על ספר פתגמי יומיא למלכי ישראל:
yshral lmlky ywmya pthgmy spr el kthybyn aynwn hla dbna qrwya wkl bna dy dpyl shna wbyth debd wkl akhab pthgmy wshar
Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

ושכיב אחאב עם אבהתוהי ומלך אחזיהו בריה תחותוהי:
thkhwthwhy bryh akhzyhw wmlk abhthwhy em akhab wshkyb
So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
41
ויהושפט בר אסא מלך על דבית יהודה בשנת ארבע לאחאב מלכא דישראל:
dyshral mlka lakhab arbe bshnth yhwdh dbyth el mlk asa br wyhwshpT
Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

יהושפט בר תלתין וחמש שנין כד מלך ועשרין וחמש שנין מלך בירושלם ושום אמיה עזובה בת שלחי:
shlkhy bth ezwbh amyh wshwm byrwshlm mlk shnyn wkhmsh weshryn mlk kd shnyn wkhmsh thlthyn br yhwshpT
Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

ואזל בכל אורחא אסא אבוהי לא סטא מניה למעבד דכשר קדם יי:
yy qdm dkshr lmebd mnyh sTa la abwhy asa awrkha bkl wazl
He walked in all the way of Asa his father. He didn’t turn away from it, doing that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes. However, the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
44
ברם במתא לא עטרא עד כען עמא מדבחין ומסקין בוסמין על במתא:
bmtha el bwsmyn wmsqyn mdbkhyn ema ken ed eTra la bmtha brm
Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

ואשלים יהושפט עם מלכא דישראל:
dyshral mlka em yhwshpT washlym
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he fought, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

ושאר פתגמי יהושפט וגבורתיה דעבד ודאגיח קרבא הלא אינון כתיבין על ספר פתגמי יומין למלכי דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth lmlky ywmyn pthgmy spr el kthybyn aynwn hla qrba wdagykh debd wgbwrthyh yhwshpT pthgmy wshar
The remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land.

ושאר נפקת ברא דאשתאר ביומי אסא אבוהי פלי מן ארעא:
area mn ply abwhy asa bywmy dashthar bra npqth wshar
There was no king in Edom. A deputy ruled.

ומלכא לית באדום ממנא אלהין אסטרטיגי מלכא:
mlka asTrTygy alhyn mmna badwm lyth wmlka
Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they didn’t go, for the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber.

יהושפט עבד ספינת אפריקא למיזל לאופיר לאיתאה דהבא ולא אזל ארי אתברו ספינתא בעציון גבר:
gbr betsywn spyntha athbrw ary azl wla dhba laythah lawpyr lmyzl apryqa spynth ebd yhwshpT
Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Jehoshaphat would not.

בכן אמר אחזיהו בר אחאב ליהושפט ייזלון עבדי עם עבדך בספינתא ולא אבה יהושפט:
yhwshpT abh wla bspyntha ebdk em ebdy yyzlwn lyhwshpT akhab br akhzyhw amr bkn
Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in his father David’s city. Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

ושכיב יהושפט עם אבהתוהי ואתקבר עם אבהתוהי בקרתא דדוד אבוהי ומלך יהורם בריה תחותוהי:
thkhwthwhy bryh yhwrm wmlk abwhy ddwd bqrtha abhthwhy em wathqbr abhthwhy em yhwshpT wshkyb
Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.

אחזיהו בר אחאב מלך על ישראל בשמרון בשנת שבע עסרי ליהושפט מלכא שבטא דבית יהודה ומלך על ישראל תרתין שנין:
shnyn thrthyn yshral el wmlk yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlka lyhwshpT esry shbe bshnth bshmrwn yshral el mlk akhab br akhzyhw
He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, in which he made Israel to sin.

ועבד דביש קדם יי ואזל באורח אבוהי ובאורח אמיה ובאורח ירבעם בר נבט דחיב ית ישראל:
yshral yth dkhyb nbT br yrbem wbawrkh amyh wbawrkh abwhy bawrkh wazl yy qdm dbysh webd
He served Baal and worshiped him, and provoked Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger in all the ways that his father had done so.
